MADDIEKARP 0-5 — SCORES 1104, STILL LOSES, STILL ALONE AT THE BOTTOM — HAS NOW PLAYED FIVE GAMES AND WON NONE OF THEM

Five rounds. Five losses. 1104 points this week — a perfectly respectable score in almost any other matchup in the league. Instead it became loss number five in a run that is now, officially, the longest unbroken losing streak of the season. Catslee scored 1202. Maddiekarp scored 1104. That's a 98-point margin — the tightest loss of the five, which in Maddie's current reality counts as progress. She has now scored an average of 1146 across the season and sits dead last. This is no longer bad luck. This is no longer the universe conspiring. This is a full season quarter of fantasy football in which Maddiekarp has been better than every 0-5 team in history and still managed to go 0-5. Keep your head up, Maddie. Round 6 is on the way. Statistically, something has to give.

Match Report
By Our AFL Fantasy Correspondent13/04/2026

Round 5 of The Shiva Bowl gave us the collapse of a perfect record, a statistical tragedy of biblical proportions, and a top of the ladder so tightly packed you could fit all three leaders inside a single standard fantasy-football tweet. Six matchups, six stories, one cosmic injustice.

Let's start with the injustice. The Diamond Zwerves scored 1321. Zwerve had multiple players crack the century. His team turned up. His team performed. His team scored the third-highest total of the round — higher than Tom, higher than Lachie, higher than Stabby, higher than every single team in the competition except two. And he lost. Charlie scored 1377 and beat him by 56 points. Here is the part that has to be put in writing: Zwerve's 1321 would have beaten eight of the other eleven teams in the league this week. Eight. He would have beaten Anna (1260), Mitch (1016), claire (822), Lachie (1154), Maddie (1104), Catslee (1202), Stabby (1109), and Wominjeka (1298). The only three teams who scored more than Zwerve this week were Tom, Cotton, and Charlie — and he drew Charlie. The schedule gods pulled the one lever available to them that would turn 1321 into a loss, and they pulled it hard. The Diamond Zwerves are 2-3. They should probably be 4-1. Somewhere in a parallel universe, there is a version of this league where points-for correlates to wins and Zwerve is top of the table instead of seventh. We do not live in that universe. We live in this one, where he drew the only team capable of outscoring him and now has to write it on his fridge.

In the result that actually reshaped the ladder, Wominjeka Warriors dismantled Stabby Chatfields 1298-1109. The first Stabby loss of the season. The undefeated run — four rounds, four wins, D. Zorko captain centuries stacked like pancakes — ended unceremoniously at the hands of a 2-3 team. Al's squad had been the punchline for the first month of the season with five-bench-DNP disasters and butterfly metaphors that had grown mould. This week, the butterfly emerged. 1298 is Al's highest score of the season and it arrived in the exact matchup required to prevent Stabby going 5-0 and running away with the competition. The timing was poetic. Stabby, for the first time all season, had a bad week — 1109 is his lowest total of 2026 — and the universe chose that exact week to align it with Al's best. Marc is still in the three-way tie for first. He is also, for the first time this season, mortal.

At the top of the table, a three-way tie at 4-1. Lachie Neale's Divorce Lawyers, Tom is Team, and Stabby Chatfields all share 16 premiership points. KP's squad leads on percentage (110%) thanks to a season-long habit of winning the weeks that matter, while Tom continues the greatest comeback arc since Lazarus (12th after Round 1, now 2nd) with a steady 1330 to see off Anna's Angels. Tom is 4-1. The prophecy, for now, continues to unfold on schedule.

Cotton On Contributions recovered from back-to-back losses with a demolition of MitchWhite, 1353-1016. Jackson dropped the second-highest score of the round behind only Charlie's 1377 and moves to 3-2 with the most points-for in the league (6382 — a full 174 clear of second-place Charlie). Cotton On's ceiling has never been in question. It's the consistency that determines whether Jackson ends up a contender or the richest team in the bottom half. Mitch, meanwhile, has now dropped from 2-0 to 2-3 in three weeks. 1016 is not a score that wins you many games. It is, however, the highest score of the round among the four teams that lost, so Mitch has that going for him.

In the rough section of the round, claire scored 822. Eight. Twenty-two. That's the lowest score of the round by 194 points and the lowest score of the season by any team in any week — a sub-thousand effort that would have lost to every other team in the league by triple digits. KP took the W with 1154, which is comfortably KP's lowest winning score of the season, because when your opponent scores 822 you don't need to score big. You just need to show up. KP showed up. The lowercase had a week to forget, the W. Ashcroft magic from last round decided to take a bye, and claire drops to 2-3. These things happen. The lowercase will recover.

And then Catslee beat Maddiekarp 1202-1104 in the tightest game of the round not involving a 1321-vs-1377 cosmic joke. Spongi moves to 2-3 after another respectable performance. Maddiekarp drops to 0-5. Five rounds, five losses, and a points-for average of 1146 that would sit mid-pack in any other season. This is now a full third of the home-and-away fixture without a win. At some point, maths intervenes. Probably.

All coaches were made available for questions. Most of them should not have been.

Q: Zwerve. 1321. Multiple players cracking the century. Third-highest score of the round. And a loss. Where do we start?

We start with the number 1321 and we sit with it. We let it wash over us. 1321 is a great score. 1321 is a winning score in almost every week of fantasy football ever played. 1321 would have beaten eight of the other eleven teams in this league THIS WEEK. And I lost. I drew the one team that decided to score 1377. The one. Out of eleven possible opponents, I drew the only one that was having their best day. The probability calculation on that is frankly insulting.

Q: You'd be 3-2 against any of those other eight teams. You'd be in the top five.

I'd be 3-2 and in the top five. Instead I'm 2-3 and seventh. The gap between 'top five contender' and 'struggling to make finals' is literally a coin flip this week — the coin flipped to Charlie and here we are. The Diamond Zwerves don't get to zwerve. The Diamond Zwerves get to watch the scheduler pull the one lever that turns 1321 into an L.

Q: Multiple players over 100. Is this the best team performance of your season?

It's the best team performance of my season by a clear margin. Everyone contributed. The midfield was humming. The forwards were scoring. The rucks showed up. I had a team cracking the century across the board and it would have been enough to beat two-thirds of the league comfortably. Charlie just happened to be the one-third. Make it make sense. You can't. It doesn't.

Q: Any silver lining? Points-for is now 6208, second in the league.

Second in points-for, seventh on the ladder. That's the Zwerve experience. I'm scoring like a top-four team and losing like a bottom-six team because the fixture keeps serving me the toughest possible matchup every week I peak. I'll take the 6208. I'll also take a formal apology from whoever made this schedule.

Q: You get another crack at the top teams soon. Confidence?

Confidence is high. Morale is... complicated. But if I can score 1321 in a LOSS, imagine what I can do when the schedule stops being allergic to me. The Diamond Zwerves are coming. The obituary stays retracted. The swerve continues.

Q: Charlie, 1377 — highest score of the round. You beat a team that scored 1321. How does that feel?

It feels like vindication. 1377 is a statement. It says CharlieGuerno is not a 2-2 team. It says the blockbuster season narrative was never wobbling, it was recalibrating. Zwerve scored 1321 — that's a huge number, and in any other week he wins comfortably. But he didn't pick any other week. He picked the week CharlieGuerno decided to go nuclear.

Q: Do you feel any sympathy for Zwerve? He would have beaten eight of eleven other teams with that score.

I feel enormous sympathy. Genuinely. If Zwerve and I had swapped opponents this week, he's 3-2 and I'm 2-3 and the entire round looks different. That's the brutal beauty of head-to-head. He had his best week of the season and ran into mine. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. I'm just glad it was him and not me.

Q: 3-2 and fifth on the ladder. Back on track after the Tom loss?

Firmly back on track. One bad week against a B. Smith masterclass does not define a season. I've now dropped 1377 and I'm five points off the top five. CharlieGuerno's ceiling is right there. Keep watching.

Q: Al. 1298. You beat Stabby Chatfields. You broke the league's only undefeated record. The butterfly has emerged.

THE BUTTERFLY HAS EMERGED FROM THE COCOON. FIVE WEEKS IN THE COCOON. FIVE WEEKS OF BEING A PUNCHLINE. THE BUTTERFLY IS NOW A BUTTERFLY. It scored 1298. It beat the only undefeated team in the league. Every single bench player showed up this week and I'm not sure I know how to process emotions this strong.

Q: You went from five-bench-DNP disaster zone to the team that ends a 4-0 start. Context?

Context is: I have been patient. Context is: I knew the squad was good, the byes were just punishing me in sequence. Context is: this week every single player I rostered remembered they play football and the result was 1298. I'd like to see the five bench DNPs try and ruin THIS.

Q: 2-3 now. You're climbing.

Climbing like a butterfly. Or a caterpillar. Or whatever the metaphor needs to be this week. I'm 2-3, I've just beaten the best team in the league, and I'm coming for the top half. The cocoon is shredded. The butterfly has teeth now, which I realise is biologically incorrect but emotionally necessary.

Q: Marc finally had a bad week. 1109 was his lowest score of the season.

Marc had a bad week and I had a great one. That's the fixture doing what the fixture does. He was due for a mortal moment and I was due for a vengeance arc. Both happened simultaneously and here we are. 1298-1109. Put it in the papers.

Q: Marc. The 4-0 is gone. Wominjeka put 1298 on you. How does it feel?

It feels fine. 4-1 is still the best record in the league, tied with two other teams. The undefeated thing was never going to last forever. If it was going to end, I'd rather it end now in a blowout than in three weeks in a one-pointer. Get it over with, lose ugly, move on.

Q: 1109 — your lowest score of the season. The Zorko captain run ended here?

Every run ends. Every captain has a quiet week. That's fantasy football. I've had four straight captain centuries and this week I didn't, and surprise surprise, 1109 instead of 1300. The maths checks out. The ceiling of this team remains absurd. This was a floor performance and I'm still tied for first. Think about that.

Q: Three-way tie at the top with Lachie and Tom. Still comfortable?

I'm extremely comfortable. The league has spent five weeks trying to catch Stabby Chatfields and the closest anyone's got is a three-way tie that still has me ahead on head-to-head against one of the two. One bad week doesn't change the trajectory. Ask me again in three weeks when I'm 7-1.

Q: KP. Top of the ladder. 4-1, 110%, the league lead on percentage. The Divorce Lawyers are the best team in the competition.

I'm now on top of the table of the league where everyone told me I didn't belong. Three weeks ago I was 'projected to lose.' Now I'm projected to win the minor premiership. Lachie Neale's Divorce Lawyers: underestimated again, leading again, chaotic as ever.

Q: 1154 is your lowest winning score of the season. But when your opponent scores 822, you don't need to score big.

You don't need to score big. You need to score enough. 1154 was enough. I'd have loved a 1300 but sometimes you get given an 822 on the other side of the matchup and the correct response is to cash the win, say thank you, and move on. I'm 4-1. I'm top of the ladder. I'm not demanding style points.

Q: You've now got the best record in the league on percentage. Pressure's on?

Pressure is for people who didn't start the season at 2-2 and claw their way to the top. I've earned this the hard way. The pressure now is on the other two 4-1 teams to keep up with KP. Not the other way around.

Q: Claire. 822. The lowest score of the round by nearly 200 points. What happened?

What happened is that every single one of my players decided, simultaneously, to have the worst game of their season on the exact same weekend. That's what happened. Last week I scored 1216 without Daicos and won. This week I scored 822 with a near-full squad and lost by 332. Fantasy football is a cruel and confusing art form.

Q: You scored 822. That's sub-1000. That's the lowest score by any team this season.

Please don't make me look at the number again. 822. Eight hundred and twenty two. I was there. I watched it happen in real time. It was horrifying. The W. Ashcroft magic from last round took a bye and nobody told me. My midfield went silent. My forward line went silent. The only thing that scored this week was my opponent and even he only needed 1154 to beat me by 332.

Q: 2-3 now. The lowercase is in the bottom half.

The lowercase is in the bottom half and the lowercase is having a bad week. Both things can be true. Back-to-back wins got reset to one bad week. I've still got Daicos. I've still got Ashcroft. I've still got a squad that beat Cotton On two weeks ago. This was a blip, not a pattern.

Q: Silver lining — you didn't finish last this week. Maddie did.

I will take my wins where I can find them and today that means 'not last.' I scored 822 and somehow still outscored Maddiekarp, who scored 1104, because points don't win matches, matchups do. Small victories. The lowercase endures.

Q: Tom. 4-1. Tied for first. From 12th after Round 1 to equal top of the ladder after Round 5. The prophecy continues.

The prophecy doesn't just continue — it is now fully on schedule. Twelfth to second to equal-first inside five rounds. I'm tied at the top with Lachie and Stabby and I've beaten Anna's Angels comfortably. 1330 against Anna's 1260. Professional. Controlled. Top of the ladder behavior.

Q: Lachie leads the three-way tie on percentage. Are you the real leader or is he?

I'm tied for first on wins and that's what matters. Percentage is a tiebreaker for accountants. I'll pass Lachie on percentage when I want to. For now, 4-1 is 4-1. You don't get extra trophies for percentage.

Q: Anna scored 1260 — a solid score. You just had more.

1260 is a strong score that loses 9 times out of 10 to Tom is Team these days. I respect Anna's number. I just scored 70 more. That's how this works. I keep scoring enough to win and I keep winning. The formula is not complicated.

Q: Anna. 1260 — a good score in any normal week. You ran into Tom. How do you feel?

1260 is a great score. 1260 is a winning score in most of this league's history. I just drew the team currently doing the greatest redemption arc since history began and he scored 1330. I did everything right and still lost by 70. That's Round 5 of The Shiva Bowl for you.

Q: 2-3 now. You've been oscillating between great weeks and quiet ones all season.

I'm the most inconsistent team in the league and I'm aware of it. 785 one week, 1203 the next, 1260 now in a loss. If I could bottle the 1260-plus weeks and play those every round I'd be 4-1 and tied for first. Instead I'm 2-3. The consistency will come. The Angels are still flying, just not in a straight line.

Q: Jackson. 1353 — second-highest score of the round. You demolished MitchWhite. Cotton On is back.

Cotton On never left. Two losses was a recalibration. 1353 is a statement of return. I dropped nearly 340 points on Mitch and moved back to 3-2. The most points-for in the league (6382) finally converted to a win again. Normal service resumed.

Q: Still top of the league in points-for by 174. Are you the most talented team in the competition?

Yes. Unreservedly yes. I've scored more points than any other coach in this league and my ceiling is the top-four ceiling in this comp. The only question is consistency. This week answered it. The squad is elite.

Q: Mitch from 2-0 to 2-3. You piled on.

I did pile on. 1353-1016 is not a friendly scoreline. Mitch's season is slipping and I happened to be the team holding the shovel this week. I'm not apologising for 1353. In this league you take big wins when they arrive.

Q: Mitch. 1016. Three losses in a row. From 2-0 to 2-3.

From 2-0 to 2-3 in three weeks is not the arc I wanted. 1016 isn't close to enough to beat Cotton On in this form. M. Gawn was solid as usual, but the rest of the squad quietly evaporated. Cotton On dropped 1353 and I was never in it.

Q: Your spine is strong. The supporting cast is not showing up.

The spine is elite. I'd take Gawn and Merrett against any spine in the league. The issue is everything around them is scoring 60s and 70s when it needs to score 80s and 90s. Fix the middle of the squad, fix the season.

Q: Spongi. 1202 against Maddiekarp's 1104. Back-to-back respectable scores. You're stabilising.

Stabilising is the word. I've now scored 1140 and 1202 in consecutive weeks after my famous 376 / 513 / 1396 rollercoaster. Steady is the new volatile. 1202 gets it done and I'm 2-3, which is actually not a disaster given where my season started.

Q: Any comment on Maddie's 0-5?

I've been Maddie. Round 2 I scored 376 and I was the shame headline. I know what that feels like. I won't be piling on. She'll be fine. 1104 is a score that wins a lot of weeks. Not this one.

Q: Maddie. 0-5. 1104 this week. Tightest loss of the season so far. Where's the head at?

The head is... somewhere. The head is detached from the body and floating in space. 1104 in any other matchup this season beats half the league. 1104 against Spongi's 1202 is loss number five. I keep scoring enough to almost win and then not quite winning. At some point the fantasy gods will file their apology. I hope it arrives before Round 10.

Q: Your season average is 1146 — which would be mid-pack for most teams. You're 0-5.

I would prefer not to talk about the average. The average makes the 0-5 more painful, not less. If I was averaging 900 and losing, at least there'd be a reason. I'm averaging 1146 and losing. That's a condition for which there is no treatment.

Q: Any positives?

I didn't score the lowest score of the round this week. That honour went to claire, who scored 822. I scored 1104, which is nearly 300 more, and I still lost. Small victories are when you're no longer the worst score AND still lose the matchup. That's where we are. That's my Round 5.
